Clean Water

Farid* climbed out of the Landcruiser and walked up the dusty village path to check on the well Global Partners had built months before. He smiled as three children led their donkey to the well to fill their buckets. Peals of laughter rang out when the donkey shifted and water sloshed out of the buckets [...]

Abdul’s Tomatoes

The difference between the two was staggering. The first tomato plant fit in the palm of Abdul’s hand while the other reached past his shoulders. The first could feed a family once every six months — the second would keep the same family fed all year. For the people of Abdul’s village in Afghanistan, this [...]

Education and Training

From vocational and agricultural training to specialized medical training projects, Global Partners seeks to transfer skills and knowledge that enable individuals to better address both their own needs, and the needs of their communities. GP implements a range of projects aimed at improving both the quality of education and general access to education, on the community and national level.

Partnering for Education in SarePul

How do we change a nation? The real answer is that the world can’t do it. It has to start with the people of Afghanistan first. That’s why Global Partners Afghanistan is proud to partner with the local culture organization, Chiroghi Hedayat, in starting the first private school of SarePul City Center in SarePul Province. [...]

GP in Iran

They come to the Nematabad Training Center from many different directions and in all shapes and sizes. On that particular morning, the project manager was pleasantly surprised to find two little ones walking about the center like they belonged there. They may be too small to be participating in the center’s language and computer classes, [...]

Health

Global Partners brings healing to places ravaged by war and disease. We care for the sick, but realize that lasting help will only come by helping improve health care delivery systems. GP enabled community health workers to utilize the DOTS method to cure over 4,000 people of Tuberculosis in Afghanistan, and today trains doctors, nurses, and community health workers in remote, vulnerable places.

Saving Lives in Chaghcharan

“As I turned to leave the house, an old man stood up and stopped me,” Dr. Jim recalls. “‘Thank you,’ he said, ‘before you came, I was the one who made coffins for the people of Chaghcharan (chog-cha-ron) who had tuberculosis.” Dr. Jim’s cowboy boots clack against the cold floor as he hurries about the [...]

Saving Mahmud’s Wife

Common words that come to mind as you look down from a small airplane on the rugged mountains of Central Afghanistan are desolate, brown, and uninhabitable. But if you look closely, nestled in every valley with even a meager source of water is a tiny village where generations of families have lived out their lives [...]

Emergency Relief

Global Partners responds quickly to disasters and emergency situations, providing food, shelter, and medical care. GP also works to improve the response capacity of local communities through programs of training and capacity building. When disaster strikes in difficult places, we stand ready to help people in their time of need.

Shovels Instead of Guns

Snow can mean winter fun and days out of school in parts of the world. But it can also mean starvation in other places. When the people of remote Ghor Province of Afghanistan see snow coming, they worry about where their next meals will come from, for the next three or four months. They live [...]

Refugees

Global Partners works with both refugees and Internally Displaced People to ensure that their basic physical needs are met, and to improve the quality of their lives through education, training, and empowerment. Our goal is to help refugees get back on their feet, and to get back home.

Training Refugees and Widows in Kabul

Refugee skill training Project Global Partners Afghanistan offered two courses to men and boys living in refugee camps in Kabul: beginning welding and beginning carpentry. Both courses had twelve students and lasted six months. During the course several students excelled in their learning and were able to obtain jobs with their new skills. The others [...]
